It’s deeply connected to who First Nations people are., Nation - Different First Nations groups across Australia have their own areas of land, languages, cultures and rules., Clans - Smaller family groups within a nation, usually based on kinship (family connections) and shared land., Lore - The ancestral rules and teachings First Nations Peoples follow, that are passed down through stories, song and ceremony., Collective responsibility - To look after each other and the community, not just think about yourself., Consensus decision-making - A way of making decisions where everyone talks and listens until they all agree on what to do., Songlines - A verbal map of paths across the land or sky marking the routes followed by ancestral spirits. Both an actual map and a way to remember information., Reciprocal relationship - A relationship where people exchange things so everyone benefits or everyone agrees to help each other in similar ways; the relationship where First Nations Peoples look after Country and Country looks after First Nations Peoples., Kinship systems - A system that shows how people are related and how they should care for one another. It also explains their roles and responsibilities in the community., Sovereignty - First Nations Peoples have always had the power to lead and follow their own laws, even before colonisation., Belonging to Country - To have a strong connection to the land, where your identity, family and responsibilities all come from Country., Cultural identity - How people see themselves through their language, stories, ceremonies, ancestors and connection to Country., Elders - Respected people in the community who hold important knowledge and help guide others in making decisions., Custodianship - A feeling of connection and responsibility First Nations Peoples have to care for land, skies and waterways like family., Self-determination - This means First Nations Peoples have the right to make choices about their own lives, communities and land.,
