Democracy - the rule of people , Classical/Direct Democracy - Direct voting on issues by citizens and regular meetings and discussions, Representative Democracy - A type of democracy in which elected officials represent a group of people, Pluralism - A democratic system where regular and free elections take place, Fair and Free Elections - Where citizens can regularly and genuinely express their preferences, Secret Ballot - A feature of a fair and free election, where no one knows how you are voting, Referendum - A vote by the people themselves , Franchise - The groups or types of people that can vote, Political Party - People with similar political aims and opinions who campaign to win an election as an organised group , Labour Party - This political party traditionally aims to raise taxes on the wealthy so that a government can increase spending an end inequality, Manifesto - A document which sets out what a party would do if they won an election, Conservative Party - This political party traditionally believes that welfare benefits and public services should have spending reduced as people should be independent and help themselves, Reform UK - This political party is led by Nigel Farage and believes that Britain should remain as separate as possible to the EU, Left Wing - Political belief where the government should help those who are more poor, Right Wing - A political belief that the government should not intervene in people's lives, Nationalist Parties - Parties that support countries separating from the UK, for example the SNP or Sinn Fein, Unionist Parties - Parties that support the UK remaining united, for example the DUP, Constituency - An area that elects an MP, MP - Member of Parliament, Parliament - The legislature that contains MPs and Lords, First Past the Post - Where the candidate with the most votes in an area wins a seat in parliament. The other candidate in that area gets nothing, Proportional Representation - where parties get seats based on the proportion of the votes they get , Majority government - One party wins an election outright and governs on their own, Coalition government - A party does not win outright so has to govern with at least one other party, Additional member system - A mixture of First Past the Post and proportional representation, where MPs are elected in constituencies but there are also 'top up' representatives that makes it more proportional, Single Transferable vote - An electoral system that is a type of the proportional representation. Candidates are ranked in preference and eliminated in a multiple round process ,
