1) How does the design of social media make it hard to stop using? (e.g. endless scroll, autoplay, notifications) — "One feature that keeps people hooked is..." 2) What’s the difference between choosing to use your phone and using it without thinking? (e.g. checking after a message vs opening it during class) — "I think automatic use happens when..." 3) How would it feel if someone watched your phone behaviour like a science experiment? (e.g. tracking scrolling, timing reactions, analysing boredom) — "If someone studied my phone use, they’d see..." 4) If you could redesign a social media app, what would you change to make it healthier? (e.g. add break reminders, reduce autoplay, show usage stats) — "One change I’d make is..." 5) The video says that when we first use social media we get a lot of dopamine because everything is new, which makes us feel good. But then the brain gets bored and stops releasing dopamine. The algorithms show a lot of normal content and then sometimes add in something very shocking to give us a hit of dopamine. This is what keeps us scrolling: our brain is trying to get that next hit of dopamine. Do you recognise this in your behaviour? (e.g. do you ever pick up your phone hoping to see something new? Do you ever open WhatsApp even though you just opened it 5 minutes ago?) "One thing I do that could be explained by the video is..."
