1) Jimmy altered lesson times to create confusion. Ask what time your lesson starts and ends. Work out how long the lesson lasts in minutes. Could he sneak a crime in that time? 2) Jimmy inflated snack prices! Choose any 3 snacks or drinks. Add the total. Then divide by 3 to find the average real price. How much is the scam adding on? 3) Jimmy’s hoarding biscuits. Find out how many people are in class today. There are 18 biscuits in the tin. How many can each person have? Any left over? (Use division and remainder.) 4) Jimmy forged a fake event to distract the staff. Find a poster or sign with a date on it (like 12/06/2024). Add up all the digits in the date — then divide the total by 5. What number do you get? That’s the number of people who turned up to an event that never happened… 5) Jimmy was seen pacing up and down the stairs like a man with something to hide. Estimate how many steps there are from one floor to the next - then count them properly to see how close you were. Then double it — that’s how many steps he took during his nervous walk. Is it more or less than 50? Might be worth checking the handrail for fingerprints… 6) Jimmy’s trying to bribe witnesses with snacks. Ask someone near the Staff Room or Social Area what their favourite biscuit is. Find out online how many biscuits come in a pack. Now do the maths: how many packs would Jimmy need to bribe everyone in class? With how many biscuits left over? 7) Jimmy hid stolen goods in a packet of food. Find the weight of one packet; how much would 3 packets weigh? Now round to the nearest kg to report in your case file. 8) Jimmy meddled with the coffee machine! Pick 3 items off the menu and round their prices to the nearest pound. What’s the estimated total cost? Now compare that to the real total. How close was the forgery? 9) Jimmy’s blasting loud music to cover his tracks. Find the length of your favourite song. If he played it 6 times, how long was it playing? Give your answer in minutes.
