The rules are given to us by Jesus and the Church., Ex cathedra - Means ‘from the chair’. This expression is used when the pope teaches officially as the successor of St. Peter proclaiming some teachings as infallible (being without a mistake)., Dogma - Teachings which have been infallibly defined (proclaimed as being without a mistake) by the Church and so must be believed as true., Natural Law - It is God’s law written into every human heart which says ‘do good and avoid evil’. For example, humans choose what appears as good to them. For example, preserving their own life, looking after their children, developing their knowledge and being loving. The natural law must be perfected by virtues., Virtue - A good habit to do something. , Lectern - The book stand from which the Bible is read., Altar - The place where bread and wine are consecrated (transubstantiation); it is a place of sacrifice and a table of sharing., Tabernacle - A box (a safe) where the Blessed Sacrament is kept in Catholic churches. It means ‘dwelling place’., Crucifix - A cross with the crucified figure of Jesus., The baptismal font - A raised basin, or vase holding water used for Baptism., Baptistery - A special part of a church or a special separate building used for Baptisms. It contains the baptismal font or a baptismal pool., The confessional - A small room used for the Sacrament of Reconciliation., Water stoup - A small basin of holy water found at the entrance of the church., Madonna - A picture or a statue of Virgin Mary, usually holding the baby Jesus., Votive candle - A small candle placed before a statue of Jesus, Mary and other saints that represents a private prayer the individual wishes to make.,
