"Martin's eyes wandered around the boy's face. He now realised how his friends must have felt when they first saw him." - First time Martin met Anthony, a boy with severe facial disfigurements since birth. The encounter took him by surprise and the shock Martin felt at his appearance let him imagine how his friends had felt when they saw him after the crash. He could empathize with them.  , "Is she sticking by you? [...] Is she still going to hang out with you when you get out?" - Anthony asked Martin if Natalie would still be his girlfriend in this new scenario. Her expectations after the surgery prevented her from accepting reality., "You see we know they were stealing and dealing in drugs [...] but we can't find any evidence." - DI Byrd asked Martin some questions about the accident to double check if Apache or Peter Mosley had given The Gang of Three any drugs. He eventually cautioned Martin and warned him not to be near dangerous people anymore.  , "Peter Mosley was bad news, Graham Fisher still is bad news."  - Peter died in the accident and Graham Fisher (Apache) is going to jail., "Between them they had made some important decisions. There were to be no more operations." - Dr Owens, Alan Green and Martin had come to this agreement for the sake of Martin's mental health. Martin had been told many patients got obsessed with their looks and couldn't stop undergoing surgeries after the first one. , "I am concerned about how your fellow pupils will react to you." - Mr. Lincoln is trying to protect Martin from possible discriminatory reactions when he goes back to school. He isn't sure about Martin's emotional and mental strength., "You're not everyone else. You can't just rush into things now." - Natalie is telling Martin that it doesn't matter if the rest of the students are going back to school soon. His situation is different from any other and it is delicate. He should be aware of that. She is being protective. , "He couldn't understand why Natalie wasn't being the tower of strength that he expected her to be." - Martin felt hurt, disappointed and shocked when Natalie tried to convince him not to go back to school so soon. In a way, she left him wondering what was going on with his girlfriend now that he had changed...,
