Its purpose is to set the tone of a scene, suggesting the emotional state of a character., Symbolism - To represent/signify a deeper or more abstract concept., Simile - To compare one thing to another using 'like' or 'as', Metaphor - Figurative language that compares one thing to another by saying it is that thing., Allusion (biblical, cl - A reference to a well-known person, character, literary work, place, or event that a writer makes to bring to mind connotations of the other text, Motif - Repeated symbolism of an object, image, sound, or phrase throughout a story to signify/symbolise/represent a larger theme., Imagery - Words that trigger the reader to recall images, or mental pictures, that engage one of the five senses: sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch., Characterisation - Anything the reader learns through the speech, thoughts, relationships, actions and physical appearance of a character. It's used throughout a text to show development of character. , Point of View - The narrative perspective from which a story is told. It’s the angle from which readers experience the plot, observe other characters’ behavior, and learn about their world. It positions the reader to see the events through the eye of that character., Repetition - A word or phrase used multiple times in a text, for the purpose of emphasising an emotion or idea., Soliloquy - an act of speaking one's thoughts aloud when by oneself or regardless of any hearers, especially by a character in a play. The purpose is to reveal a character's true thoughts to the audience., Dramatic Irony - When the reader knows something that the character does not. This creates tension and suspense as the reader waits to find out when the characters will become aware., Implied stage directions - Provides the reader of a play with an idea of what the characters are likely to be doing on stage. The purpose is to enhance understanding of the author's true meaning. ,
