I estimate the first digit as "6" in my quotient because 3x6=18, I tried to estimate, but it was incorrect. However, it wasn't a significant error. I know which way to go., While still estimating, I used the equation 27/3 as a substitute for 279/31, Because 6 was too big, I chose one group of 31 smaller. I tried 31x5 = 155, 31x 5= 155.I put 5 as my first digit in the quotient & start my normal dividing steps, My original equation, Now that I know that 31 multiplied by 9 equals 279, I can finish dividing..
