Quality function deployment (QFD) - Is a process used to make sure a product meets the needs of a consumer. It tries to understand what their requirements are and to relate these to technical requirements, Ranking matrix - A table with numbers assigned to rate product features and used to compare products, Virtual CAD Model - Uses Computer aided design (CAD) software to create virtual prototypes, Sheet - A flat material up to approximately 10mm in thickness, Card Model - Inexpensive quick model requiring limited tooling used to develop a design, which does not have functionality, Block - A rigid piece of material that is supplied with relative flat surfaces, Block models - Models with realistic details that can look and feel like the real product with some functionality, these are time consuming to produce and require specialist tools , Breadboarding - The construction of an electronic circuit on a board (soldered or solder free) using jumer wires to transfer voltage around the breadboard, Advantages of breadboarding - Quick and simple to build, allows for testing and the making of amendments, it has lower costs than producing PCBs and can be reused., Disadvantages of breadboarding - Method does not work well with complex circuits, is non permanent and is physically larger than the final PCB, 3D printing - Additive manufacturing process where component are manufactured by building up layers or polymers or metals, 3D printing advantages - Quick, print on demand production method, changes to the design can be made quickly and impossible geometry can be made as opposed to traditional methods., 3D printing advantages - Cost effective as their are fewer waste materials, environmentally friendly method of production, 3D printing disadvantages - Limited material choices, some parts not fully accurate or of poor finish, 3D printing disadvantages - Slow in large volume, equipment is expensive and high skill level to operate the equipment is needed. , Steel rule - Most basic and useful measuring device, accuracy is limited, Vernier caliper - A measuring device that consists of a main scale with a fixed jaw and sliding jaw with an attached measuring scale called a vernier, Micrometer - A device that measures small distances between thicknesses between its two faces, one of which can be moved away from or towards the other by turning a screw with a fine thread, Multimeter - An instrument designed to measure electric current, voltage and usually resistance, typically over several ranges of value., Functionality - The purpose for which something is designed or expected to fulfil, Quantitative Data - Data based on number and quantities, which can be counted and measured., Qualitative Data - Data based on descriptions and observations , which cannot be counted or measured., User testing - Evaluating a product by testing it with representative users; sometimes called usability testing.,
