Sports coverage also portrays men and women very differently., Tuchman (1978) suggested the narrow range of role for women amounted to their ‘symbolic annihilation’., Women as sex objects : The Male Gaze- Laura Mulvey Women are the passive object of the gaze and men are the active recipient. Women’s image is created to satisfy male ‘needs’, Women in traditional roles: Ferguson (1983) women are represented in the media in traditional roles, with a focus on ‘him, home and looking good’. Looked at various types of media and found there was a focus on ‘pleasing the man’ and being a good stereotypical housewife., Gauntlett Men are seen as the heroes and the women as the damsels in distress.  The women rely on the men to look after them, protect them and in many cases save them.,
