VIRAL EXANTHEMS - Rash or skin eruption, CHICKEN POX - Rash first appears on the face, then scalp and rest of body. The rash is very itchy. On day 1-3 prodrome of fever and respiratory symptoms, ROSEOLA (6TH DISEASE) - A THREE DAY HIGH-FEVER APPEARS FIRST. Then a rosy pink rash that begins on the neck and chest, and then the rest of the body. THE RASH DOES NOT ITCH. Will have a cough, respiratory symptoms. ERYTHEMATOUS PHARYNX AND TONSILS., RUBELLA (GERMAN MEASLES) - Rash that begins ON THE FACE AND SREADS DOWNWARDS. THE RASH IS VERY ITCHY. Lethargy, low-grade fever, muscle and joint pain., MEASLES - A rash that starts on the FACE BUT IS NOT ITCHY. COUGH, CORYZA (RUNNY NOSE), AND CONJUNCTIVITIS. KOPLIK SPOTS appear in the mouth 1-2 days before the rash appears. Can go back to school 4 days after the rash appears. Contact the local health department. COMPLICATION includes a secondary bacterial infection, encephalitis, subacute sclerosing panencephalitis, FIFTH DISEASE - LACY-LOOKING / SLAPPED CHEEK APPEARANCE OF RASH (raised, uniform, maculopapular). Rash is usually not itchy Fever, runny nose, headache. Flu-like symptoms 3 days prior to rash. Can go back to school when they are comfortable. THEY ARE CONTAGIOUS PRIOR TO THE RASH APPEARANCE. COMPLICATIONS INCLUDE vasculitis, arthritis, aplastic crisis (reticulocytopenia), and can cause a loss of pregnancy, MUMPS - Swelling, Joint Pain, HIGH FEVER, Headaches. Can go back to school 5 days after the onset of swelling., HAND FOOT & MOUTH - Fever, sores, and blisters on the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, and inside the mouth. Can go back to school after the fever is gone and blisters dry up., SCARLET FEVER - Red SANDPAPER-LIKE RASH in the GROIN OR ARMPITS and then to other parts of the body such as the neck and torso. Sore throat, and moderate fever. Can go back to school after 24-48 hours of antibiotics. MONITOR FOR STREP TEST, MONONUCLEOSIS - Fever, sore throat, lethargy. SWOLLEN LYMPH GLANDS. Can go back to school after fever is gone, may take weeks to regain strength. Monitor for joint pain, WHOOPING COUGH - Runny nose, low-grade fever, long whooping cough. Back to school after 24-48 hours of antibiotics. Monitor RESPIRATORY FUNCTION,
