1) He was convicted of corruption. Apparently, he’d been taking bribes for years. 2) He’d been struggling for a while and he just decided he’d had enough. Then he got offered a job, so he decided not to bother graduating. 3) It wasn’t as straightforward as they’d been hoping. The baby was two weeks overdue and weighed five kilos! I was told she was in labour for ages. 4) They’d been saving up for it since they first moved in together, which helped. Then they had their offer accepted on the second place they saw, luckily, and managed to take out a mortgage. 5) I heard her husband had treatment for cancer for over a year, but unfortunately it just continued to spread. It’s all been really tough for her. 6) He’d been thinking about it for a while, as he was fed up with all the travelling, so he retrained as a counsellor. 7) I think their marriage had been through a rough patch before and they had got through it, but this time they decided to call it a day. 8) Apparently, he’d fancied her for ages, but she was seeing someone else, so when they split up, he asked her out on a date and they’ve been together ever since. 9) His team had been on a terrible run. They’d only won one game in ten. Then they got knocked out of the cup, and the board just decided it was time for him to go. 10) The ceremony was just for close friends and family, but then we invited about 500 people to the big reception in the evening.
