He used false accusations to ruin peoples reputations, The Rosenburgs - sold secrets about the atom bomb to the Soviet Union. They were executed for it in 1950., space race - competition between US & Soviets to gain technological superiority, Sputnik - Created by the Soviet Union, it was the 1st man made satellite. It caused the US to increase funding for science & technology., Interstate Highway Act - Created by Eisenhower to make sure that the military could travel from east to west coast quickly in time times of war, housing boom - the need for homes increases because veterans return home and low interest rates make housing affordable., baby boom - a large increase in births between 1946 & 1965 because veterans return home and start families, GI Bill (Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944) - paid for veterans to go to college, which leads to higher paying jobs and an increase in consumer spending, Polio Vaccine - created by Jonas Salk it eliminated a disease that was crippling children, conformity - to go along with society's norms, non-conformity - to go against society's norms (rock & roll, the beatniks), Berlin Airlift - US pilots flew supplies to West Berlin due to the blockade, Berlin Blockade - Soviet Union placed restrictions against the US, Cuban Missile Crisis - Cuba had missiles aimed at the US; JFK orders a naval blockade until missiles are removed, Containment - Policy of keeping communism contained within its existing borders, Red Scare - Fear of communism , Leaders of the Soviet Union - Joseph Stalin, Nikita Khrushchev, First 3 Presidents during the Cold War - Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy ,
